The dinner concluded the events organized by the “sistema Italia” in Brussels within the framework of the IV edition of the “Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World”.

On November 20th, the Ambassador of Italy to Belgium H.E. Elena Basile hosted a seated gala dinner for 80 guests. Numerous representatives of the Belgian and Italian political, economic and cultural world attended the event, including the Federal Minister of Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development, Marie-Christine Marghem, the Minister-President of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Pierre-Yves Jeholet, the Permanent Secretary of the Royal Academy of Belgium, Didier Viviers, and H.R.H. Michelin-starred Chef Giuseppe Misuriello presented the typical dishes of the Basilicata. On this occasion, Fondazione Matera 2019’s Director General Paolo Verri illustrated the beauty of the Basilicata region and the activities that the Foundation Matera 2019 carried out during the European Year of Culture which saw the “Città dei Sassi” as the protagonist.

The event provided an opportunity to present to the Belgian and international public Italy’s stakes with regard to the promotion of the Mediterranean Diet, the protection of the authenticity of Italian products and of agri-food products labelling.

The gala dinner concluded a series of events coordinated by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the Foundation Matera 2019 and with the other entities of the “Sistema Italia” including the exhibition of videos and photos of the territory and the inhabitants of Matera and Basilicata through the gaze of 56 European photographers that took place at the Dauwens & Beernaert Gallery; the event “True Italian Taste” of the Belgium-Italian Chamber of Commerce, dedicated to the fight against the phenomenon of the “Italian Sounding”, in the presence of consortia, companies, sector press and Members of the European Parliament in the Agriculture and Environment Commissions; and a concert by a string quartet organized by the Italian Cultural Institute.
